Crate and Basket- Decorating Ideas

It may not be crate and barrel, but wire baskets and wooden crates give my home the comfy decor I want without much expense.

I use wire baskets on my cookbook shelf to break up the solid "book shelf" look.

Tucking in treasures like vintage blue Ball jars....

and giving a textural element, this introduces an industrial or commercial feel. The basket above can also hold your favorites and when it comes time to search for a recipe, you can simply grab hold and tote it off to another area of your home.

A sturdy old milk crate is shown here holding firewood.

outside planters turned vegetable wall art- practical and pretty.

I use crates for storage in plain sight. Some like the ones below are purely decorative,

while others have a purpose. In our small bathroom I use them for extra storage of soaps, toothpaste and tp.

This combo is a book rack, a towel rack and the underneath holds extra items that are stored away unseen.

One of my personal favorites is my crate wine rack.

What do you use crates and wire baskets for?

Cute ideas, Shannon. I use them in my craft workshop to hold patterns and to clip things to as I am working on projects. I used to have crate bookcases back in the 70's! Crates and bricks- xo Diana

I share your crate love! I'm into finding plain ones and painting 'old' logos on them so they look more special. I have 2 in my garage that are currently being treated for woodworm and I cannot wait to tart them up when they dry. x

You have some great ideas here, Shannon. I think I may try some on my bookshelves. Most of my baskets are used for storage under tables and in closets...not a great way to display their beauty! Thanks for all your inspiration!

Jane

I have crates and baskets... I love using them, for decor and storage. I am so glad you posted the very first picture. I've not see it before and I recently got a basket quite similar, though probably not as heavy. Mine is black, chippy, and missing a small part, but still perfect for a wall mount shelf!!!
I'm going to copy this idea for sure.

I also like the look of wire baskets tucked in amongst your books and knick-knacks!

thanks for sharing them. Hope you're staying warm. We've had a wet and rainy week!

I have never found an item that did not look better sitting in a wire basket or a wooden crate. Love your inspirational vignettes.

I LOVE those wire baskets! They look so cool. Have you seen old metal biscuit boxes? They come from old general stores or old bakeries, and I see them from time to time at estate sales and auctions. They look nice on shelves too:
